Cafe Cafe

After a brief hiatus, the Coffee Crawl is back! The late spring months were pretty busy and tough over here so I wasn’t able to hit up as many coffee shops as I would have liked. But  now that summer is officially here today, the hot and humid weather has descended upon New York City and tourists are starting to invade, the time to break out the iced coffees has come! I have to say that despite the nasty humidity that hits the City every year at this time, I do love it if only for the fact that I get to venture the streets with a delicious iced beverage in hand. For my crawl this time, I actually happened upon a cute cafe down in SoHo at 470 Broome Street on Greene, appropriately called Cafe Cafe.

If you’ve ever been down to SoHo and off the main Broadway strip, you know that there are many gems of stores to find. They’re usually tucked away beside some showroom, gorgeous apartment building or any number of warehouses. Cafe Cafe is no exception to that rule. Directly around the corner off of Broome Street you can find 2 wooden benches beneath a cute little wooden sign depicting the coffee shop’s name. Once you walk inside, it’s clear to see that this is more than just a cozy little coffee shop. Cafe Cafe offers salads, sandwiches, freshly baked breads and muffins, cookies, cupcakes and of course a delicious selection of coffee and espresso drinks. To the right of the cash register and where you place your order is a great little seating area set up in living room style and made up of benches and other chairs. There’s also an antique-looking coffee table and dresser in that area as well: gives off an almost home-y and comfortable vibe. Very inviting. Upstairs you can also find more seating for those busy and hot days when pedestrians just need a nice place to cool off from the City heat. The baristas were all very welcoming, chatty and nice. Always a pleasant addition to a coffee shop. In the background and on the flat screen TV behind me the World Cup broadcasted. Normally, I’m sure that a light music permeates the room, but since the World Cup is so huge this year, it’s dominating every restaurant and food/beverage place in the City.

For my treat today I had the Rice Krispy Treat. Gooey, buttery, marshmallowy and simply delicious, this dessert left my taste buds wanting more!! I mean, what’s better than a freshly made Rice Krispy Treat?? You  must check this out. Due to the overwhelming humidity outside I indulged in the iced coffee. You know how some places pour hot coffee over ice and milk and call that iced coffee? Well, Cafe Cafe did not do that. I saw them pour the iced coffee directly from an insulated pitcher which meant that they took the time to brew the coffee, refrigerate it and then transfer it to this pitcher. Now that is the way to make a great cup of iced coffee. Add a little skim milk to it and some sweetener and I was good to go! I took my treat and coffee and sat outside at one of the aforementioned benches and enjoyed: the people watching, the beautiful weather and the scrumptious treats from Cafe Cafe.
