Cafe Minerva

In the spot where Left Bank Books once stood (and where I would spend many a day searching through the stacks of wonderful books), Cafe Minerva has now been erected. Tucked away at 304 W4th Street between W12th and Bank Streets, this new edition to the West Village coffee scene stands in a glorious location. It almost seems as if you are sitting in a set for “Sex and the City”, with all of the beautiful people, outfits, and buildings surrounding you. I unfortunately wasn’t able to snap a picture of the outside of the cafe. There is no overhang, no sign, nothing to let you know that you have reached Cafe Minerva except for very lightly colored lettering on the glass windows. I almost walked right past it, if not for the delicious aroma wafting out from the espresso bar.

Walking over the freshly painted threshold (and it really is freshly painted, the shop has been open for only about 2 weeks) I noticed that most of the seating available was only for table service. As you are all aware of, I tend to frequent and enjoy the cafes that are self-service. I enjoy ordering my coffee and treat from a barista, scoping out my table, and enjoying my purchases by myself, without server interruption. However, there were about 6 stools available at the espresso bar, one of which had my name on it. Pulling up to the bar, I looked around making mental notes of the decor and patrons that were here. Overall, the entire place seemed a little too sterile. Too clean. I like my coffee shops more worn-in-looking. As for the patrons, most were in groups of 2 or 3, chatting and laughing with each other as if they had no care in the world. The others were, not surprisingly, plugged into their laptops or iPads. I had simply my magazine and my iPhone with which to snap pictures and take notes.

The menu of Cafe Minerva consisted mainly of Italian breads and sandwiches with a few pastries and desserts and of course coffee and wine. I was a little concerned with the quality of the espresso and coffee beverage I would order, initially thinking that the shop would have invested more into their food preparation than their coffee. Boy, was I sorely mistaken. I will make a very bold statement here and say that Cafe Minerva’s cappuccino was the best one that I have had since starting this coffee crawl. The experience began with a wonderful and friendly barista taking  my order. I then watched as he used the grinder to make me a fresh batch of espresso grinds for my espresso drink. He then pulled me a fresh shot and combined it with the steamed milk for my cappuccino. Before serving it to me, he created beautiful latte art on the foam. I hated messing up the design but I had to add my sweetener and enjoy the drink. And enjoy it I did! The espresso was so fresh and milk perfectly warm and smooth that it was almost as if I were sipping a coffee milkshake. Absolutely the most delicious drink that I have had on this crawl. You must check out Cafe Minerva. Even if you are put off by the semi-sterile environment of the store’s atmosphere and people, you will fall in love with the drinks.

Enjoy.

Grounded

So I’ve lived in the West Village for over a year now and tried out many different coffee shops and bakeries in the immediate area. Actually, I’ve almost tapped out every coffee shop and bakery in the area. I knew that I wanted to go on a crawl today, but since the weather decided to lightly rain and turn somewhat chilly I didn’t want to venture out too far from the safety of my warm and dry apartment. Then I got to thinking, “Grounded! How could I have forgotten about Grounded?!” This hidden gem in the West Village, very close to home, is what I like to call the ‘neighborhood java joint.’ Located at 28 Jane Street near Greenwich Avenue, Grounded provides the perfect tucked away goodness that I tend to really enjoy in a coffee shop. Today proved no different as I ducked in out of the rain.

Doesn’t the picture just make the shop look so inviting? I also love the organic nature of the coffee and tea as well, as dictated by the full name ‘Grounded Organic Coffee & Tea House.” It almost reminds me of my favorite place in DC, Teaism. Walking into the shop, an instant calm is brought over you: the music playing is usually classical or a light reggae-style (which I find very conducive to studying and reading), the people working behind the counter are incredibly laid back and give off that calm and relaxed vibe, and the patrons are actually nice. I know it’s hard to find calm, nice NY coffee drinkers sometimes, but come to Grounded and you will. It seems to be an unheard precedent that all of the customers adhere to: please don’t be rude or loud or we’ll kick you out. One downside (for the customer, not the store) is that it’s always difficult to find an open table or couch to plant at and enjoy your beverage and snack of choice. Like I said, everyone in the neighborhood loves it here. I do love, however, choosing from the eclectic array of seating options. It looks like the owners (or whomever the decorator is) decided to walk into a thrift store and pick out whatever they saw first. I absolutely love that style of coffee shop decorating. As you can see from the picture, I wanted to sit on the red couch…my fave…however it was taken by someone else loving it a little earlier than I did. Sigh.

Once I made my way to the counter to order my coffee and food, I had time enough to make a selection. One aside I must mention here. Fall + NYC + Coffee Shops have to be the absolute best combination of anything ever created. Starbucks brings out its beloved Pumpkin Spice Latte – the number one way that New Yorkers know that Fall has hit the City. For me, today, despite the glorious rainy and chilly weather, I knew that Fall was upon me from the menu of items with which I had to choose. I instantly picked out their pumpkin latte (made with skimmed milk, of course, because the pumpkin syrup was probably sugar-free and fortified with protein…kidding) and pumpkin bread. Let me just say, and commend loudly, that the latte was probably the best I have ever tasted. And I’m not just saying that, either. It was actually the right combination between espresso, yummy pumpkin syrup and milk. While I savored every last drop, it didn’t last more than 10 minutes. Delish. The pumpkin bread came next to tickle my taste buds. Freshly baked, moist and pumpkin-y goodness, the bread lasted even shorter than the latte did!

So definitely take my word for it and try Grounded out if you haven’t already. And do so before the Fall season for coffee and treats leave us. If you miss out on the pumpkin latte or pumpkin bread, you will be very upset with yourself!

Brooklyn Farmacy & Soda Fountain

I know that it’s been quite some time since a coffee crawl has been posted. I’m sorry. Don’t hate me. My personal life got a little hectic over the summer and it’s finally settling back in to some sort of normalcy. This means that I can finally resurrect my Coffee Crawl! To be quite honest I’ve missed it greatly. So sit back and enjoy my coffee stylings.

You may have noticed a subtle change to my description from “sipping my way through Manhattan,” to “sipping my way through New York City.” I have decided I need to venture out of Manhattan proper and check out what the other boroughs have to offer. Today’s crawl brought me to Carroll Gardens in Brooklyn to a perfect spot called Brooklyn Farmacy & Soda Fountain. I was visiting a friend and asked for a suggestion that would be a great installment for The Coffee Crawl’s first post in awhile. He took me straight to 513 Henry Street to this amazing find.

Right away, stepping across the Farmacy’s threshold I was transported to the 1940′s when soda fountain’s in drug store’s were at the peak of popularity. I actually found myself wishing I could experience them first hand from that time. The decor was simply perfect: old-fashioned soda fountains, bar stools surrounding the soda jerk station, antique light fixtures and furniture that could actually date to the 1940s. They even had gum and candy for sale that would have been for sale back then. I was in love with this place! The jerk’s were so friendly and seemed to be having fun in preparing the egg creams for their customers. You never find places like this in Manhattan. I guess I should come to Brooklyn more often!

For my first coffee crawl treat back on the job, I decided to opt for an iced coffee (obviously) and a turtle cupcake. Yes, my usual. The coffee could only be sweetened with pure rock sugar or simple syrup, none of the imitation sweeteners. It was delicious and sated my caffeination obsession perfectly. The cupcakes, prepared by Robicelli’s Cupcakes were simply divine. If you remember from my previous posts, The Coffee Craw was turning into somewhat of a cupcake crawl. I have no problem with that. I’m obsessed with cupcakes too. This particular dessert only added to my obsession. The cake was the perfect combination of moistness and “cakeyness” while the icing was an amazing mixture of (a ton of) butter, sugar and flavor for whichever you chose. Since I had the turtle cupcake mine had hints of chocolate, caramel and pecans. Yummy. My friend chose to go with a traditional soda fountain favorite: a Black & White Soda. This consisted of chocolate soda with vanilla ice cream. I of course sampled it (well, a lot of it) and my mouth happily cried with pleasure. It was chocolatey carbonated goodness.

In the end, I was thrilled to be back on the coffee crawl trail and that it brought me to Brooklyn. I even shopped in their drug store and bought a soda jerk hat and a few greeting cards. If you ever find yourself in Carroll Gardens, or want to hop on the F train, then you definitely have to make a stop at the Brooklyn Farmacy & Soda Fountain. I know I will quickly become a regular.

Cafe Cafe

After a brief hiatus, the Coffee Crawl is back! The late spring months were pretty busy and tough over here so I wasn’t able to hit up as many coffee shops as I would have liked. But  now that summer is officially here today, the hot and humid weather has descended upon New York City and tourists are starting to invade, the time to break out the iced coffees has come! I have to say that despite the nasty humidity that hits the City every year at this time, I do love it if only for the fact that I get to venture the streets with a delicious iced beverage in hand. For my crawl this time, I actually happened upon a cute cafe down in SoHo at 470 Broome Street on Greene, appropriately called Cafe Cafe.

If you’ve ever been down to SoHo and off the main Broadway strip, you know that there are many gems of stores to find. They’re usually tucked away beside some showroom, gorgeous apartment building or any number of warehouses. Cafe Cafe is no exception to that rule. Directly around the corner off of Broome Street you can find 2 wooden benches beneath a cute little wooden sign depicting the coffee shop’s name. Once you walk inside, it’s clear to see that this is more than just a cozy little coffee shop. Cafe Cafe offers salads, sandwiches, freshly baked breads and muffins, cookies, cupcakes and of course a delicious selection of coffee and espresso drinks. To the right of the cash register and where you place your order is a great little seating area set up in living room style and made up of benches and other chairs. There’s also an antique-looking coffee table and dresser in that area as well: gives off an almost home-y and comfortable vibe. Very inviting. Upstairs you can also find more seating for those busy and hot days when pedestrians just need a nice place to cool off from the City heat. The baristas were all very welcoming, chatty and nice. Always a pleasant addition to a coffee shop. In the background and on the flat screen TV behind me the World Cup broadcasted. Normally, I’m sure that a light music permeates the room, but since the World Cup is so huge this year, it’s dominating every restaurant and food/beverage place in the City.

For my treat today I had the Rice Krispy Treat. Gooey, buttery, marshmallowy and simply delicious, this dessert left my taste buds wanting more!! I mean, what’s better than a freshly made Rice Krispy Treat?? You  must check this out. Due to the overwhelming humidity outside I indulged in the iced coffee. You know how some places pour hot coffee over ice and milk and call that iced coffee? Well, Cafe Cafe did not do that. I saw them pour the iced coffee directly from an insulated pitcher which meant that they took the time to brew the coffee, refrigerate it and then transfer it to this pitcher. Now that is the way to make a great cup of iced coffee. Add a little skim milk to it and some sweetener and I was good to go! I took my treat and coffee and sat outside at one of the aforementioned benches and enjoyed: the people watching, the beautiful weather and the scrumptious treats from Cafe Cafe.

Dub Cafe

Dub? I’m sure you’re thinking…Dub? Huh? Well if you think of it in the context of music and DJing it all makes perfect sense. Well that, and the fact that it’s and a part of the DubSpot – the Meat Packing District’s DJ school! Next to being obsessed with coffee and sweets, I think that DJs and their art of creating amazing music and a great vibe are truly outstanding. Dub Cafe has capitalized on this popular spot by opening a great little cafe next door. Located on 14th Street right off of 9th Avenue, I suggest you spot in for an iced coffee and a little spin at the turntables.

Walking through the open door, fan blowing, reggae music playing overhead I felt relaxed yet excited to check this place out. The first thing I noticed was that they are looking for a vegetarian chef with barista experience. I then looked around at what Dub Cafe had to offer in the way of food and saw that everything was either vegetarian or vegan. I tend to find that these types of places, catering to vegans, are very relaxed and chill. Dub Cafe definitely was no exception. The barista, complete with dreads and Rastafarian hat, was incredibly sweet, helpful and nice. He greeted me the second I walked in and allowed me to check out everything the store featured without being pushy. It was then that I further noticed that they offered all natural fruit juices and smoothies! This place is a health-conscious coffee lover’s paradise!

Yesterday in New York City was the beginning of a small heat wave that’s hitting this week. Therefore, I opted only for an iced coffee with soy milk (to stick with the vegetarian theme). I have to say, I really enjoyed the coffee’s delicious taste. Smooth, not too strong, light nutty taste, yum. I found out that the beans Dub Cafe brewed and roasted were from La Colombe – of which there is a cafe on 319  Church Street (I’ll have to check them out) – truly delicious coffee. I grabbed my iced coffee and sat outside on one of the few stools they had to offer. I just love sitting outside with a great cup of coffee, people watching and taking the scene in. That’s what’s great about New York City: great coffee shops, great atmosphere and a great Dub Cafe to meet my expectations.

MarieBelle

Last weekend as I was strolling along 6th Avenue in Chelsea, I happened upon a new place called the Limelight Marketplace. At first glance you may be confused as to what you’re walking into because the entire structure is that of an old cathedral/church. That’s right, there’s an entire pseudo-mall located inside of a church. Amazing. Even more amazing if you remember that prior to the Limelight Marketplace and after it was a church, this venue was one of the best clubs in the area: Limelight (and later Avalon which didn’t last too long). Well, walking through gothic-style doors of the marketplace the first thing that drew demanded my attention was the black and white checkered floor: shiny, marble and beautiful. All of the stores lining the walls of Limelight were designed in an open market feel. There were no doors or no real division from store to store, just open shopping goodness. Once I got to the middle of the shopping area I looked up towards the ceiling and noticed a baby blue sign reading “MarieBelle Cacao Bar & Luxury Chocolates” and I was instantly drawn towards it. Even better, MarieBelle would soon start selling coffee drinks (at which point I will have to drag myself back there to do a more appropriate coffee crawl).

Finding my way up the stairs towards my chocolate heaven I smelled sugar. What were they going to have for sale? Once I reached MarieBelle I could hardly believe my eyes! There were piles and piles of chocolate bark, brittle, cookies and even beautiful meringues. I wanted one (or two!) of everything. The sales executive working that day was absolutely helpful in describing every last delicious dessert in an effort to assist me in making my decision. I knew that I wanted to go with some sort of chocolate brittle/bark but wasn’t sure which as they had dark, milk and white chocolate bases with either toffee, hazelnuts, almonds or pistachios. In the end, I went with the milk chocolate brittle loaded with pistachios and toffee (pictured towards the bottom of the picture with the rest of the scrumptious brittle and bark).

To accompany my dessert, I initially asked for a cup of coffee so I could review them for this blog. However, I learned that the coffee machine wouldn’t be delivered until later in the week. Therefore, I am going to venture back to MarieBelle’s this weekend to finalize the crawl with a cup of coffee….and possibly some more bark. The sales executive managed to tempt me with a different drink: hot chocolate. This isn’t any old Swiss Miss hot chocolate, either. They actually melt down chocolate pieces with milk and water (or really what tasted like cream!) and serve in a cute antique ceramic mug. There were about eight different flavors to choose from including sugar cane chocolate, spicy chocolate and dark chocolate. My chocolate du jour ended up being sugar cane: milk chocolate sweetened with actual natural sugar cane juices (how can you go wrong!?). This cup of chocolate may actually beat out The City Bakery’s hot chocolate, and that’s saying a lot!!

Check out the Limelight Marketplace soon, and while you’re at you must stop upstairs at MarieBelle. Make sure you’re ready indulge and possibly gain some extra pounds because you won’t want to resist and of the chocolate-y goodness that will surround you.

Teaism – Washington, DC

This past weekend, I took a little trip down to the nation’s capital to visit my mother for Mother’s Day. I decided that since I was in a great city such as Washington, DC I would do a little travelling coffee crawl! Now since I am from the area, I knew of plenty of coffee shops that I could venture to. However, one place instantly came to mind: Teaism. Located close to Dupont Circle, Teaism draws a young crowd looking to relax, chat and enjoy great food and beverages…and that’s exactly what I set out to do.

Approaching the shop, I could already tell how popular it had become. There was plenty of outdoor seating available in the form of benches and steps but every single spot was taken with people enjoying their tea and treats. Once I walked through the front door, the line of customers also provided ample support for my conclusion of its popularity. My wait to place an order was minimal. My wait to receive my food was also minimal, something that greatly pleased me and every other patron who wanted their delicious treat. The counter people seemed a little rushed and stressed when asking me what I wanted to try, but I didn’t hold that against them as the line behind me grew quickly. One observation (and tangent) I would like to make is the look of the people in DC as compared to those in NYC. It was evident that DC values comfort over fashion much more so than NYC. Most patrons seemed to be in jeans or khakis, flip-flops and a polo. This is definitely a more relaxed feel than that of the fashion-forward capital that NYC is known for. And it helped to relax me further as well.

As I reached the counter to place my order, I was unsure as to what I wanted to get. I remembered from years past that when I frequented Teaism, I always got the Chai Tea Latte. After ordering it again at this visit, I remember why. It’s delicious! I had to let my beverage cool down to a more drinkable temperature before enjoying it. Once I did however, the spice of the chai and slight sweetness added to it provided my taste buds with a very enjoyable experience.

True to form, I also had to order some sort of sweet treat. What Teaism is known for are their Salty Oat Cookies (pictured). Believe when I say that the salt in cookie’s name is no understatement. The oats baked into chocolate combined with a considerable amount of salt made this cookie simply amazing. I actually ate it a little too quickly and was left a little saddened that there wasn’t more (lol). Teaism sells their cookies in little gift packages which contain 6 cookies. Had I stronger willpower I would have bought one, however, knowing my intense sweet tooth I would have eaten the entire package in 30 minutes.

So if you’re in the DC area or going to be visiting it soon, you definitely need to check Teaism out. It’s one part of living in NYC that makes me miss DC so much!

Cafe Grumpy

Years before Cafe Grumpy was in existence in Chelsea, there was an outstanding coffee shop called The Big Cup. It was the neighborhood hang out. Comfy couches and chairs lined the walls. Assorted magazines were scattered on the coffee tables for customers to enjoy while they visited the shop. The baristas who worked there knew all of the regulars by name. It was the Cheers of coffee shops. Then, when rent on the building skyrocketed, The Big Cup sadly closed their doors for business. After that unfortunate incident there was no neighborhood coffee shop in Chelsea (besides the corporate world of Starbucks). Then, when Cafe Grumpy opened its doors (I’m not 100% sure on the exact date), I felt a sigh of relief. “Finally, a coffee shop where I can enjoy a great cup of coffee in my own little world of Chelsea and feel a great sense of community.” Located on West 20th Street between 8th and 7th Avenues, Cafe Grumpy provides just that: an amazing cup of coffee and a relaxed atmosphere in which to enjoy it in.

Originally from Brooklyn (Park Slope and Greenpoint locations), Manhattan as I pointed out above, was in desperate need of a coffee shop with character. Welcome Cafe Grumpy to the scene. When you first approach the store, you are greeted with their cute logo: a grumpy coffee bean. This is one of the most clever and ingenious logos/designs for a coffee shop I have ever come across. I was already excited to enter just from that. I’m easy to please. The interior is simple yet inviting: small wooden tables placed strategically in the front, side and back of the store; a sophisticated espresso machine and coffee grinder across the right side in front of a beautiful exposed brick wall. To further this relaxation classical music and instrumental jazz lightly sound throughout the entire space…love.

When I first took a look at the coffee roast selection, I was slightly overwhelmed. Although I tend to think of myself as a coffee connoisseur, I needed some help. The barista directed me to a listing of the coffees that they had available that day. From what I saw, there were 6 selections ready for me to enjoy. After reading every description (and honestly wanting to try every flavor), I went with the Fazenda Passeio. According to the Cafe Grumpy website this bean hails from Brazil and features notes of marzipan and hazelnut with a light vanilla taste in the finish. Back to my coffee: once the beans were ground and served in an oversized mug (my favorite thing to sip coffee from) I could instantly smell the hazelnut. It was absolutely delicious to smell and to taste. This cup of coffee I had today was probably one of the smoothest, most expertly roasted and amazing ones I have tried to date.

To accompany the coffee I had a slice of their chocolate chip banana bread. As I have pointed out many times, sweets are my vice (but a good one!) and I love all of them. This bread was no exception to that rule. Moist, decadent, large chocolate chips scattered throughout, a slightly crunchy outer layer sprinkled with sugar and this banana bread did just the trick. Please check out Cafe Grumpy if you ever find yourself in the Chelsea neighborhood (of travel there…or visit their 2 Brooklyn locations), you absolutely will not be disappointed.

Butter Lane Cupcakes

I may as well turn this blog into the Cupcake Crawl! Every place I visit seems to have these delicious morsels of goodness. I was hanging out on the East Side today when I got a craving for a cup of coffee and a cupcake. After checking out google maps, I found that there was a relatively new bakery on East 7th Street between 1st Avenue and Avenue A: Butter Lane Cupcakes. After making my way downtown, the cutest little bakery appeared amongst wine bars, shops and town homes. As you can see from the picture to the left, Butter Lane’s outdoor appearance was inviting with good outdoor cafe-style seating with cute little yellow daisies in the window. I was very excited to check this out.

Once I stepped through its front door, the bakery greeted me with its Sirius radio station turned to a 60s light style of music: something perfect for a quaint shop such as this. I was also greeted with the smell of cupcakes coming straight out of the oven, ready to be decorated in sugar and buttery goodness. A few interesting things caught my eye before I was able to place my order. The seating area, although limited inside, was still welcoming. There was a framed sign dictating when the next cupcake decorating class would be held. I was especially excited about this, and well, who wouldn’t be?! I am definitely going to be coming back to learn Butter Lane’s style of cupcake decorating, and I can’t wait! There was also a little laptop computer set up with a sign above it reading, “Fan us on Facebook for your chance to win free cupcakes and also to receive a free shot of frosting right now!” Also, if you have foursqaure on your iPhone or Blackberry, and you are one of the first 10 customers to check in every day, you win a free cupcake of your choice! I just love this social media inclusion into the bakery. It’s fun and definitely brings attention. What you will also notice from the second picture are the many different varieties of frosting flavors to choose from…amazing!! My mouth started to water the instant that I read the peanut butter and banana flavor. Yum.

Once I made it to the counter and was greeted by a very pleasant counter person, I decided to try 2 cupcakes and of course a cup of coffee. As with any cupcake shop, I always try a vanilla cake with vanilla frosting for comparison sake. My second choice was a vanilla cake with espresso frosting. I have to say, Butter Lane’s cupcake definitely comes in very close to my favorite cupcake in the City. The cake was very light, moist and not overpowered with butter. The icing likewise was incredibly light and smooth and had a little hint of cream cheese mixed in with the butter and sugar. I was thoroughly impressed (and of course inhaled them within minutes). The coffee brewed here was Stumptown Coffee, which, if you have read any of my other posts, you know is one of my favorite beans in the City. After the delicious coffee and cupcakes, I definitely want you to check out Butter Lane: a great newcomer to the world of New York City Cupcakes.

Sweet Heart Bakery

I know it’s unusual for me to post another Crawl so quickly after another one, but since it’s so beautiful out today and I was craving a coffee, I decided to take off for another coffee crawl! Today’s stop brought me to a cute little neighborhood bakery/coffee shop called Sweet Heart Bakery. Located on 8th Avenue between 14th and 13th streets, it’s very easy to reach using the subway system: A, C, E, 1, 2, 3 and L trains are all within a one block radius. Even better, it’s so close to my apartment that I stop there literally every morning, without fail, for my morning cup of coffee.

Sweet Heart Bakery is a family owned and operated business and all of the employees let you experience that sense of family. What I mean by this, is that each morning when I go in I am greeted very warmly even if the coffee line is out the door. Once at the register and placing my order, the person working offers food in a non-pushy way to compliment my coffee. When suggesting these food items they use great descriptors such as “delicious,” “just baked,” “home-made,” “best you’ve ever had.” I just love how they take such pride in each and every product that comes out of their bakery. I would too, considering everything there really is delicious and sometimes the best I’ve ever had.

You will notice from the pictures which I took today that it is all food. I wanted you to really get a feel for how scrumptious all of the desserts and treats look. I will briefly describe and name each of the desserts in the order in which they are shown (from top to bottom) on my blog. The first picture is of the Red Velvet Cupcake (and in the background you can see the Oreo Cookie – yum!). If you’ve ever been to Crumbs for one of their giant cupcakes, picture that with a much more moist and delicious cake and you get Sweet Heart’s version. Amazing. the next picture is something new for them today: Banana Cream Meringue! I was thrilled when I saw it and almost swan dived right into the topping. The meringue’s peaks are expertly browned and give a great presentation for any customer craving something sweet (I wish I had tried this today….) The last picture of tasty treats is one of their hand-dipped chocolate shortbread cookies. I’ve had these before, and while the cookie is just a tad dry, the melted dark chocolate that coats one half of the cookie more than makes up for it. Also, if you simply dunk the cookie in a cup of coffee or a glass of milk the problem is easily solved! I recommend any of these three desserts if you’re craving something a little sweet. Also on their menu are muffins, cakes, scones, muffin tops and other cookies. For such a small bakery and storefront, Sweet Heart Bakery really pumps out a lot of great product.

For my midday snack today I had a small cup of coffee with milk and Splenda and a sugar-free blueberry muffin. Yes, sugar-free. Being that Sweet Heart is on the edges of the health-conscious neighborhoods of Chelsea and the West Village they must cater to us health nuts in order to secure business. They have successfully secured mine with this muffin. It’s about as large as the Red Velvet Cupcake pictured above and just as delicious. Plump and juicy blueberries pack this muffin and provide amazing flavor. Complemented by their delicious, smooth, very strong and HOT coffee, Sweet Heart Bakery provided me with an excellent snack on this gorgeous day. I actually wasn’t able to contain my hunger long enough to take a picture of the muffin and coffee before I enjoyed every last bite. Therefore, my last picture was taken after I finished everything. I know it’s not much help because you can’t see the muffin, but believe me when I tell you, everything at this little bakery is absolutely delicious.

Also…as a little side note, if you’re on foursquare on your iPhone or Blackberry, I’m currently the mayor here…so stop by and say hi!
